What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
- Intermediate
Intermediate level guitarists often see the most change in their playing compared to any other stage of the guitar learning journey. We will focus on scales, bar chords, tempo control/ rhythm, and a good bit of theory. All this will be explained from the musical influences you have in your life and the direction you want to take your study. The big takeaway on intermediate lessons, practice!
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner -
Beginner guitar lessons are some of the most fun and most challenging lessons. We will work at your individual pace to discover new sounds and the location of familiar ones. In our first lesson, I'll ask you a few of your favorite current songs or artists. Our lessons will be a mix of understanding how to physically play the guitar as well as the knowledge that fundamentally structures music in general. Don't let that sounds like too much! As we take it one chord at a time, you'll find you wont stay in the "beginner" slot long!

Performing Experience:
I have been in bands since I was 16. My first show was with a 60's cover band in Rochester MN. I have performed around the state with a variety of different acts. I can teach others the do's and don'ts of how to handle venues and sound engineers. The best bit of advice tho, thank the sound guy!!!
Experience Teaching:
I have been teaching on and off for over 15 years. Many of my students have been younger however I have had some students over 70. I believe that encouragement and a personalized lesson plans is the best way to achieve a students goals. I find it best to foster a passionate approach to music, I don't teach straight information, I teach emotional expression threw an instrument backed by a explanation.

Sawyer has over 15 years of experience playing piano, guitar and songwriting. He has been teaching for over five years. When I decided to learn the guitar, Sawyer was my first choice as a teacher. He has a passion for music that is inspiring. He not only worked with me from the beginning on teaching basic skills, he also began teaching me how to play songs that I wanted to play right away. Sawyer tailored lessons to student interests
Sawyer U was one of three of my son’s guitar teachers. My son’s first teacher was technically not nearly as accomplished as Sawyer. She also failed to account for my son’s interests. After the disappointing experience with his first teacher, my son reluctantly tried guitar lessons again, but this time with Sawyer. Sawyer tailored lessons to my son’s music interests, taught him basic skills he needed to be successful, and, most importantly, he made learning to play guitar fun. He was kind and patient at all times. My son wanted to practice and was excited about lessons. Sawyer moved to attend college so my son is now with a different instructor. If it had not been for Sawyer’s positive influence, my son would not have continued with lessons. Instead, he has become an avid guitar player and enthusiast.
