10 Years
I am a Chicago musician born and bred. I began giging out at age 12 in Chicago blues clubs. From my roots in the blues I grew into different genres such as rock, jazz, bluegrass, soul, and other contemporary styles. I currently perform, write, and record with several different groups; Stampy, Great Sky Band, Alpaca Smokes, and various other projects. My playing and teaching styles are similar in that I put everything into the music. I believe personal connection with the music and an understanding of the creative and theoretical process in an essential aspect in listening to, playing, teaching, and learning. I have been teaching music in private and group settings for over eight years and performing for over ten. In that time I have dedicated myself to music as a teacher and performer and I am always looking to better my students, myself, and music as a whole.
Ian E. has over 10 years of music experience in the Chicago area.
Ian E. is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons, Bass Guitar Lessons, Song Writing Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:

We will also learn how to break the musical rules and how to let your unique music voice shin My songwriting lessons are specifically tailored to each individual students goals and creative process.
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Lessons are specifically tailored to each individual students goals, needs, and preferences. I believe strongly in the model of learning to play then understanding the theory behind what it is we are playing. We can learn everything from the basics like open chords and the pentatonic scale to advanced concepts such as chord extensions, playing over changes, and specific techniques such as economy picking. You can bring a song or concept to the table for us to work on, or I can lead you to the next step of your musical growth. I am open to all genres and styles of music and can’t wait to set and achieve musical goals with you.

Formal Education:
I studied Music and Environmental Science at Eckerd College There I gathered a vast knowledge of music theory, practice habits, and teaching methods.
Private Education:
I have studied and been mentored by many great musicians such as Neal Alger, and many blues and rock players.
Performing Experience:
I have been performing professionally since I was 12 years old. I began performing in a blues group in and around Chicago at the blues clubs, such as Kingston Mines. Then I grew into the rock genre and began writing and performing my own music. I have released records with Doug Shotwell and the Right Hand Band, Stampy, and performed on many other records. I am currently working on a record with Great Sky Band. I perform about 3-4 timer per week with various rock, soul, jazz, funk, and original projects.
Experience Teaching:
I have been teaching privately and at music schools since 2009. I have taught from ages four to seventy-four and all levels of experience I have been teaching at School of Rock for the past three years where I created my own curriculum and programs for early music learners and people looking to play in group settings. My passion for music and education yields a fantastic learning environment and constant growth.
