What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

The bass is my personal favorite instrument to play. The principles are quite simple, compared to other instruments; yet there are so many levels of sophistication to explore. don't just memorize a bunch of notes; I show the FORMS sitting all over the neck, so that a coherent logic emerges for the budding bassist. And, as always, play YOUR Music of Choice, starting with the easiest and working up from there.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Read from all forms of Notation as required. Study a very natural way of singing, bringing out the best qualities of the singer's unique voice. Of course we do the SINGER's Music of Choice while recording our takes (an extremely beneficial tool for vocal improvement). My main focus is in Modern Popular Music, but I've worked with styles from Sinatra to Amy Winehouse; Elvis to Pink; and the newest artists as well... but I don't teach screaming or Tuvan Throat Singing, sorry.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Most of my players will gain proficiency with a few easy songs in 4 lessons. In 6 months (from flat beginner), most will be able to play dozens of popular songs reading off of Lead Sheets, and able to join in on local jams. I have had some of my players doing advanced theory in less than a year, and attain a professional (at least band-worthy) level of musicianship in as little as 3 years. In all cases, my students learn how to deliver live performances of THEIR Music of Choice with "feeling" and "groove." Beyond that, can play anything want to, charting out uncharted tunes or just decoding them "by ear." cover all appropriate forms of Notation for the styles desired.

Formal Education:

General Music education,

Private Education:

Piano lessons from age 6. Age 10-18: I learned from and played with the well-known session cat from Hollywood, George Doering for eight (8) years. Back then, George was just a child prodigy. He went on to a professional career after one semester at UCLA revealed that they couldn't teach him anything about music there that he didn't already know. George is the man who taught me a lot of what he knew about Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Bands and Music. Everything else came from my experiences playing with hundreds of musicians and students, in themselves my very important teachers in the course of a career spanning 50+ years and counting.

Performing Experience:

1973-Present. Veteran of over 50 professional performing bands, played thousands of gigs, Guitar, Bass, Lead and Harmony Vocals. Along the way I picked up another 20 years' experience with Analog and Digital Recording and Production.

Experience Teaching:

Since 2005, I have taught over 2,000 students (racking up nearly 30,000 lesson hours) of Guitar, Bass, Mandolin and Ukulele--Fun Style.
