What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
I am a beginning guitar instructor. However, I am very experienced in both guitar and teaching, and excited to combine the two for the first time! I believe in getting students playing as soon as possible, without getting too involved in music theory. Being self-taught, I will no doubt be unconventional in my approach. I believe in allowing a student's natural curiosities to come through and guide the learning. I also believe in allowing a student to find his/her own path, style, and voice. In other words, it will be mostly student driven learning, rather than teacher driven. The student's interests (songs, artists they are a fan of) will directly drive the learning--and music theory will serve as the background and only be consulted when necessary. I don't believe in a boring, classroom/textbook style approach; I believe in hands-on and getting right to it! With me--not having any formal music training and having been born and raised in Chicago--you can expect me to be humble (as well as cultural/gender/disability tolerant). The advantage of that is that you can expect me to be patient, understanding, and always respectful. Again, I am new to teaching guitar, so I ask you to be patient of me! My skill is professional level, however I am no "Master Yoda" of guitar-I am not an Eddie Van Halen or Brian May! (please request another instructor if this is what you seek). I am more of a singer/songwriter in the vein of Roy Orbison or Paul McCartney. I will start off teaching beginner and perhaps switch to teaching intermediate in the future.
