I am a 52 year old working musician who has recently returned to New Hampshire having lived in Los Angeles for 15 years.
Currently playing as lead guitar player in two New Hampshire based bands:
My own Jazz quartet based out of Durham.
The Lazy Boy Rockers are a Country band based out of Concord
I myself have studied with:
Eddie Angel, lead guitarist with Los Staitjackets
Ron Anthony, former guitarist for Frank Sinatra
Ted Greene, legendary teacher and L.A. session player
I have had the great good fortune to play with some wonderful musicians. Among them are:
Bonnie Pointer
Lucinda Williams
Cesar Rojas of Los Lobos
Orrie McIntyre of The Average White Band
James Intveld of The Blasters
Billy Zoom of X
A bit of my philosophy towards music:
With anyone who has ever studied with me I have always placed an emphasis on building a vocabulary that allows a student to play songs. Audiences don't want to hear scales or exercises, they want to hear songs.
It is hard to express yourself with a limited vocabulary. Music, like english, is a langauge, and like english one of the ways it can be communicated is on a piece of paper. The musician who can read a piece of music and interpret it has a tremendous advantage.
Some musicians are able to make a lot out of a little, but there is a difference between saying a few words because you are choosing them carefully, and saying a few words because you have little to say or because your vocabulary is too limited to express yourself.
All my students are required to have a manuscript book and a journal to keep track of their goals and progress.
I do place a lot of emphasis on understanding and playing Blues as it is the foundation for so much American music, especially if the student wants to learn to play Jazz.
