James,(aka. Big Jim, the Gospel Doctor) is an accomplished singer, writer and performer. Born and raised in Halifax County, Virginia, he began performing at various church functions with his sister at 5 years of age.In 1977 after graduating high school as a National Merit Semi-Finalist and receiving various scholarship offers, he attended East Carolina University (1977-78) and Campell University (1979-80) to begin work on a Music performance degree.
After a more than 15 year career in radio as an announcer, he returned to school to complete a Bachelors degree in music performance at Averett University. While attending, James was elected President of the Delta Phi Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity (2006, 2007, 2008), directed the University Gospel Choir and received numerous awards for writing and photography.
