I am a recent college graduate with Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance. I am an accomplished piano instructor, music tutor, and teaching assistant with seven years of experience. From my country, Vietnam, to the United States, I have gained experience in teaching piano to students of various cultures Western and Eastern, ages 5-20, and levels Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. My teaching philosophy is based on my personal experience and belief that every student can learn music, regardless of their backgrounds, as long as they receive proper guidance and instructions from the teacher. With this mindset, I hope to cultivate an inspiring environment that promotes students’ music appreciation and passion for music while providing them with techniques and skills to achieve their musical goals. At the College of Wooster, I tutored in Piano, Music Theory and Music History. My chief pedagogical experiences were in teaching music majors to prepare for the Piano Proficiency Examinations, and helping them with all levels of music theory and ear training. I created lesson plans, taught piano, and gave short lectures at the Piano Class in which I worked as a teaching assistant for three years. Even though I am a Performance major, as a fervently aspiring teacher, I took courses in Education, Piano Pedagogy and Conducting, to improve my teaching skills. I also completed two student-teaching field trips in an elementary school in Wooster, Ohio, during my sophomore year. Such invaluable hands-on teaching experiences enabled me to learn how to construct the most effective lesson plan for each student, deal with unexpected situations while teaching, and acquire an insight into the role of the teacher as a knowledge transmitter, learning faciliator, therapist, friend, and artistic motivation.
