About Me

Monica began singing and playing piano at the age of 5. Over the years, she developed her skills further by also learning the clarinet and pursuing a degree in Music Education. While in school, she competed in several piano competitions, marched in the band, and became a member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc. Monica has worked as a vocal coach for both sacred and secular music since 2007 and now serves the Music Director at a church in the Charlotte NC area. She gained performance experience in the commercial music genre are by playing at such venues as Ziggy's in Winston-Salem NC, and with acts such as B. Parker Music, from Greensboro NC, and her own Neo-soul Band, GrooveFood. Though Monica can teach many genres of music, her musical personal favorites are R&B, gospel, and jazz which had great influence on her style of playing. Monica loves music because of the joy it brings herself and others and loves teaching music because spreading that type of joy and accomplishment in self is priceless. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, Monica can help you expand and enhance your playing. Monica is excited to learn how she can help you reach your musical goals. What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

My background in music theory and macro-analysis allows me to guide and aid the pupil with composition with one or many instruments, lyric writing, different formats both in even and uneven meters. This can be done as simplistically as writing with a paper and pen staff paper that is! or as advanced as using musical software, like Finale or GarageBand.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Whether you're a beginner, or a professional preparing for an audition, I specialized in providing a warm-up and expanding on what your voice can do. As with each of my lessons, these will blend your fundamental essentials along with your personal vocal goals in instruction. Whether your goal be building confidence, public singing, prepping to record, or singing for church, we will cater lesson to pupil's needs.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Lessons will be specialized to the student based on pupils goals for completion. My method is to teach both the fundamental technique of scales, and chord patterns, and guide pupil through his/her favorite musical selections with basic Sight Reading and Ear Training. Can teach the traditional method learning note names or can teach the "Numbers" method. Can also accomodate and teach different styles like jazz, gospel, R&B, and contemporary.
