Brian is a versatile drummer, pianist, composer and teacher with an in-depth knowledge of music theory and an aptitude for inspiring students in any genre from jazz and fusion to rock and pop. In his 19 years of teaching he has learned that the right balance of patience, a willingness to cater to a student's specific needs and agendas, as well as an emphasis on his own refined curriculum is a perfect recipe for the success of any music student. Brian's thorough musical training has included studies at Cabrillo College, private studies with Paul Wertico and Rusty Jones, as well as numerous master classes and workshops. His performance credentials are extensive, averaging well over 100 performances a year. He has a versatile resume as a teacher, professional musician and published songwriter with music licensed for use on national television shows such as The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Dr. Oz Show and national advertisements for Armani, Corona and Coca-Cola. More information at: Brian has had a love and passion for his work in music over the last quarter century and has honed his craft over those many years. He would like to expand his teaching horizons with eager students who have a thirst for knowledge.
Brian A. has over 35 years of music experience in the Hoffman Estates area.
Brian A. is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons, Keyboard and Piano Lessons, Song Writing Lessons, Record Engineer Produce .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Record Engineer Produce
I produce music in a digital audio workstation called Logic Pro. This is the DAW I know, therefore the only one I teach. Midi production on an Apple computer is how I make the music I have licensed for national television and advertisements and I'm eager to share that knowledge.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
I teach essential fundamentals to beginner and intermediate piano students using standard books Finger Power, various Mel Bay publications, etc while integrating my own chord theory curriculum. This is often done by transcribing chord changes to songs of the student's choosing. This gets a piano student playing along with songs of their own interest while learning new chords and voicing in the process. I consider myself to be a novice jazz pianist and am especially excited when a student is interested in jazz.
What to expect in my Drum Lessons
I try to keep a balance between necessary fundamentals and things a student will find fun and interactive. I can spend an entire lesson talking about technique but I choose not to because it's also important to get a student playing things he or she is interested in. Simply put, I know rudiments and sticking exercises are essential to a drummer's playing, but so is playing a simple song that a student brings in. My transcription skills are exceptional and I quite enjoy transcribing drum parts that I know a student is interested in. I will cater to a student's needs AND desires while maintaining integrity when it comes to teaching essentials.

I'm always excited for my weekly piano classes with Brian. He is very patient and passionate; constantly challenges me and keeps the classes always fun! Very flexible with the schedule, specially for an adult learner like me : Alim wrote on Tue, 15 Jan 2019
Great Drum Teacher
My son is excited to meet with Brian every week. He feels challenged and that keeps him practicing at home. Student teacher connection is important and even though he is a beginner and young Brian treats him on the level. Koyo Nielsen wrote on Thu, 10 Jan 2019
amazing teacher
Brain first taught me drums beginning on 2017 I believe and made learning a breeze. Totally worked with my schedule and specific needs. Been greatly considering returning for more lessons! Alyssa wrote on Thu, 10 Jan 2019
Great Teacher!
Brian is a great music teacher. I took drum lessons with him for five of my teenage years. I learned a ton from him. His lessons were very dynamic and tailored to where ever my musical interests wandered. I would highly recommend him to anybody wanting to learn! Doug wrote on Fri, 11 Jan 2019
Brian’s lessons are the highlight of our week!
Every week, my 10 year old son takes lessons with Brian. It is the highlight of my week watching my son and Brian during their lesson. It warms my heart watching him stay engaged and eager to learn whatever Brian has to teach him. Brian is just so great at what he does-I can’t express that enough! He is patient, kind, and knows so much about drums, piano, and just music in general. My son has learned so much from Brian. Some examples are reading music and correct form. My son usually takes drum lessons with Brian, but Brian has him so eager to learn, that they started throwing piano lessons in! Again, I can’t express how well Brian teaches his students. We are so lucky to have found someone so in love with what he does and so great at teaching. If you’re considering going with Brian, you won’t be disappointed! Great piano teacher!
My 7 year old daughter has been taking lessons from Brian for the past year. He is great with kids on explaining and teaching new concepts. He tries to incorporate music my daughter likes into the lessons and his sense of humor keeps her laughing and enjoying her learning. I am happy with her progress also.
