Hi, My name is Heather and I am a Piano & Voice Teacher in McKinney, Texas. I teach out of my home studio and I can also come to you. I have been a student of music since I was 8 years old (that was a looooong time ago) and I have been teaching for almost 13 years now. I love to teach a classical foundation and it's significance as we explore other genres of music. Of course, I love to play the greats like Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven and more, but I also like play other genres like New Age piano like Yiruma and my own original pieces. I also love to play worship music from chords charts such as Hillsong United, Kari Jobe, Chris Tomlin, Bethel Music, etc. I also like to play Broadway, Show Tunes and Movie music like Moana, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Les Miserable, The Sound of Music, etc. I also enjoy composing music and also listening to music from a movie and then sitting down at the piano and figuring it out-I've done that with music from the movie Moana and The Man From Snowy River and others. I've also done that with artists like Britt Nicole, Tori Kelly and others. My singing experience began when I was in 3rd grade when I joined he Glee program at my elementary school. I continued singing through college where I auditioned for the Applied Music Program for Voice and Piano and was accepted. At my first college, I helped form a volunteer Vocal Ensemble group of 8-12 a capella singers. We were very dedicated and performed locally (in Southern California where I lived). That group received acclaim from our college and was henceforth offered as a class for credit (still to this day). During that same time period, I auditioned for the 2nd season of American Idol. Even though I did not make it to the "show", it was a good experience. I also sang the National Anthem for many of my colleges sporting events (Basketball, Baseball, Football, etc.). Since then, I have taught voice privately to students and I have also taught children's and adult choirs. My teaching style is unique and fun. I focus on learning styles and how each student best learns and then I tailor the lessons to meet the needs of the student. Your lessons will have structure, but I also allow freedom for you, as the student, to develop your love for learning and playing the piano and singing. I like to tell my students “The slower you practice, the faster you learn." My favorite thing about teaching is YOU and watching you grow and mature into a budding musician. My students love that I am patient and try to figure them out. I teach students of all ages both boys and girls. My youngest student was 3 years old (singer) and my oldest student was 77 years old (piano student)!! I DO mean ALL ages!! Thanks for taking a look at my profile. I look forward to working with you and helping you develop your love of music through playing piano and singing. ~ Blessings!
Heather S. has over 13 years of music experience in the Princeton area.
Heather S. is proficient in and teaches Keyboard and Piano Lessons, Vocal Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
For singers, I will teach you about proper breath support and how to use and train your body as your musical instrument. I will also have you explore playing music from different eras like Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, New Age, 20th Century, Broadyway, Show Tunes, Movie music, etc. We will occasionally do composition projects, sight-reading and play music theory games to make the learning process fun.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
During lessons with me, you can expect to be taught how to read music and I will expect you to learn how to read the notes and all symbols pertaining to your music. I will also teach you about rhythm and counting and I will expect you to learn, understand and apply your knowledge of rhythm as you play and sing. I will teach you about proper piano technique hand form, body posture, etc. and why it vitally important to your playing. My expectation(s) are simple: 1.) Listen and apply what is being taught. If you have questions, then ask them. 2.) Practice-Commit to a daily practice or several days a week. We want to develop consistency. 3.) Have realistic expectations of yourself. If you practice once a week for 10 minutes, then don't expect that you can play as well as you would if you practiced one hour every day. Be kind to yourself and understand that you will get out what you put in.
