About Me
Tyree has always loved music from an early age. He began playing drums at the age of 5 and continued his education by going to school for audio production. His musical influences include Dennis Chambers, Dr. Dre, Benny Greb, Chris Coleman, Robert Glasper, Herbie Hancock and many more. Tyree's favorite thing about music is how people take the same techniques and vocabulary to find infinite ways to express themselves and his favorite thing about teaching music is helping people achieve a goal and realize the potential they have to achieve anything they put their mind to. One of his favorite teaching experiences was seeing a young student be able to move around the kit, play cleanly, and understand what a clean roll is. When taking lessons with Tyree you can expect to be pushed as you will look into your toolbox of techniques and see how they can be used to make music. He focuses on reading, playing technique, and how you can use them in your favorite genre of music to play the music you love. He looks forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about your specific goals, interests, and learning style. He also teaches contemporary piano, classic and contemporary music theory, chords shapes and scales, songs, Lead Sheet and how to create the music you hear in your head and Music Production as well. Book a lesson now and get connected right away! If you do not have the instruments at home, that is not a problem. I can provide what's needed for lessons and share cost-effective solutions so the student can develop as needed. If you live in the Colonial Heights, Petersburg, or Chesterfield area I will travel to you. Majority of my students live in that area.

Tyree P. has over 10 years of music experience in the Hampton area.

What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

A really deep dive on the fundamentals required to sound good on Bass Guitar. This includes scales, understanding the fretboard with shapes for 4,5, or 6 string bass. Also we go over articulations and rhythms as bass is a very pronounced instrument. After that we go into genres of music and build vocabulary based around certain concepts that will help the student really enjoy playing music while sounding good and understanding what is going on.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Solid skills as we look at music from 1900 and up observing the use of music theory, chords, scales, and other devices to learn how to play their favorite songs and then go back and see how we can add personal touches that don't take away from the music. Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper, and George Duke are some of my favorite piano/keyboard players. I can also teach classical piano as well as this is what I start out with for my younger beginners before we move to more modern music.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

A thorough look at the 40 basic rudiments and building up the proficiency of the hands. Then we add the feet in and begin to make music. Reading music is a must but this is to help the student visualize what they are playing as they begin to learn things like phrasing, dynamics, how to be articulate on the drumset. We will use many genres of music to do this and to build appreciation for how these 40 rudiments can infinitely be used to create many different feels and musical playing of the drumset. Its all fun and I make this enjoyable but you will learn the fundamentals which will help you to play what you may have seen on youtube or at a concert. Some of my favorite drummers are Benny Greb, Chris Coleman, Dennis Chambers, Tony Williams, and Matt Garska.
