About Me

Hi, my name is Allan and I am teacher with a degree from Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. I have been a student of music for 12 years. My musical influences are Olafur Arnalds, Eddie James, Misty Edwards and Jacob Collier. My teaching style can best be described as direct and unconventional. I try to get to the point by an unfamiliar method, as opposed to regurgitating the stuff that I've learned from others. My teaching philosophy drives me to plan my lessons well in advance, you can expect to learn the fun and exciting aspects of music in chords, reading, and singing along with what you play. I like to tell my students "who? what? when? where? and why? do you play music, and I always love to help students get motivated to push forward. My favorite thing about teaching is the good influence I can have on the people around me, and the hospitality I have received from students I've had, in their homes and at their family events. I primarily teach playing in reference to scales, but I can also teach playing by site reading. My approach as a teacher is to meet students where they are and encourage them to train their mental muscles to get a piece into their hearts. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Record Engineer Produce

-

I've made a few songs with computer recording and layer-dubbing systems, the most common one is Reason 8.

What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons

-

Violin and cello are my favorite instruments to teach. They are basically the same instrument. They've been my most sofisticated instrumenas and I can follow along with any scale by muscle memory and reading music.

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

- - Advanced

I've made several songs that seem to have originated out of nowhere, that simply flow from me when I sing to a nice melody.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

- - Advanced

This has been the fastest instrument to learn for the past 12 years because it's easy on the fingers and the chord maps are laid out in plain sight. I think the piano is the easiest instrument to learn for any contemporary music besides the triangle.

What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

- - Advanced

I've basically transferred all of my guitar skills to the bass and its much more fun. The same finger positions, except a little more sass.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Fast and consistent hand position mentoring. Persistent practice to get the chords and scales memorized and speeding up the skill once you get a hang of it up to 100-120 Beats/minute, and not moving on until you get there.

He's a chill guy

I think Allan is one of the best teacher's I've had. He will be a great teacher for any age. -Allan's secret sidekick :P Allan Guevara wrote on Fri, 30 Mar 2018

    Great violin teacher!

My 8 year old son has really enjoyed working with Allan. He goes the extra mile by encouraging him to be creative and make his own violin music. Allan also plays the piano with him to help teach. David Newton wrote on Fri, 31 Aug 2018

      Great guitar and drum teacher

Allan teaches my 7 year old twins guitar and drums. He goes above and beyond to ensure that the kids are getting as much out of the lessons as possible and has exposed them to numerous instruments and melody creation. He is a firm believer that the love of music should come from within and fosters that with his students. JK Puli wrote on Wed, 20 Feb 2019

        Allen's review

I give Allen my highest rating. He does in-house piano and guitar lessons for my 9 YO twin daughters. He is always punctual and has a well-planned lesson. He works patiently with the kids and builds up their confidence. He is a true pleasure to work with. Allan Guevara wrote on Tue, 26 Feb 2019

          Extremely Creative

He's super chill and has a really cool and creative teaching style. He's taught me jazz theory and other fundamentals on both piano and guitar and in general is good at a lot of instruments. Would definitely recommend for all ages! wrote on Sat, 04 Jan 2020
