Ben has always loved music from an early age. He began playing drums at the age of 10 and continued his education by learning whatever instrument he could get his hands on. His musical influences include just about everything. Being a traveling musician himself, he finds a lot of local and regional bands that impress him. Ben's favorite thing about music is the community it creates and his favorite thing about teaching music is sharing a skill you can have forever. When taking lessons with Ben you can expect to start with the basics and get a rock solid foundation, then add to that based on what interests you the most. What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

Have a guitar and not sure what to do with it? Well you are not alone. Guitar is one of the most common instruments around and you can find one laying around in so many homes, but not everyone knows how to play it. As such an old instrument, the styles that you can focus on with a guitar are huge. I will help you build a foundation on chord structures, strumming patterns, finger styles, tunings, and overall guitar knowledge. We will build off of this foundation and start looking at the styles that speak to you the most. Those are the ones that you are going to enjoy learning and practicing. We can look at your favorite songs, break the parts down, and learn them bit by bit until you are rocking with the best of them. A metronome is a must.

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

Song writing is daunting, but if you have ever told a story you are halfway there. We will go over some basics of song writing; things like meter, rhyme, cadence, structure. I will teach you what all these things mean and how they work together. Once we have a base to work from, we can start looking at some of your favorite songs and breaking them apart to see how others have done it. Then we will work on writing your own songs! I will share some of the tips and tricks I use, as well as some great tools to help you in the process. Song writing is an awesome way to share a thought, feeling, idea, story, or anything else you have floating around. I think you will absolutely fall in love with it, I know I have.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

We will strip away everything and start with getting solid rhythm. We can focus on working towards a full kit, hand drums, or just a single drum like marching band. Whatever you want to work towards, we can. Setting a foundation is the key, and if you know some basics we can review them, and move on to your top interests. It is helpful to have a practice pad. New rhythms should be committed to muscle memory by constant repetition to a metronome! A practice pad helps you do so without driving everyone crazy. Like I just mentioned, having a metronome is a must there are some great apps that make this easy. If you have a specific band or artist that you want to focus on, let me know and I can start breaking apart their style so we can learn it together.
