Spencer has always loved music from an early age. He began playing guitar at the age of 8 years old and continued his education by private lessons, self teaching, and various public education courses. His musical influences include Tool, Sublime, Jimi Hendrix, and Blues. Spencer's favorite thing about music is its universality and its ability to evoke powerful emotions in everyone and his favorite thing about teaching music is seeing people have those "Aha! I got it!" moments. One of his favorite teaching experiences was teaching a class of beginning students how to play a minor scale. When taking lessons with Spencer you can expect a friendly environment that aims to push the student to get better so they can meet their goals, without putting forward pressure that will make the student dislike playing the guitar. What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Students can expect to learn the basics of guitar technique, music theory, and playing songs!! I can also teach students to read music and tabs. I plan to develop not only the student's ability to learn and play songs, but also to teach them to understand keys, scales, and inter working of the songs. I plan to teach students not only how to play songs, but how to improvise, play with emotion, and make the songs their own.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner -
As far as song writing goes, students can expect to learn about chord progressions as well as keys and scales to help them write melodic content. I also have a basic knowledge of song structure, and am capable of aiding the student in the song writing process by providing them with background instrumentation as I am also able to play drums and bass guitar.
