I've been playing for over 33 years in various genres; everything from Rock n Roll to jazz, and a lot in between.
I myself am a constant student, always exploring new music genres and ideas.
My favorite thing to teach is not just how to play, but to "learn how to learn"....to help students discover their own personal learning process when faced with new challenges. I like to "dissect" exactly what things are made of, and then piece it together in a way that they can apply to just about any musical challenge...be it theory or technique, because the great musicians are always learning. It should never stop.
My goal is to become more and more efficient at getting quickly to the "light bulb" moment, where the student realizes that they've just discovered a new thing. That's always encouraging.

Also studied with Robert Chappell, who, at the time was head of percussion dept. at Northern Illinois university.
Performing Experience:
Played in various bands (rock and blues) in high school.
When I graduated, I had a job waiting as a drummer for a Vegas/Motown-type band.
From there, I played in various bands in the midwest.
Mostly rock and RNB bands, but also did a six month gig with a country band, as well as 2 different punk bands.
When My wife, daughter and I moved to Cleveland, I waited for a few years, then started playing on my church's worship team, and eventually started to work with a classic rock band, an acoustic duo, and a jazz quartet featuring my wife on vocals.
Experience Teaching:
One of my teachers here (whom I studied with for 2.5 years) suggested that I consider teaching.
I did, and now, 3 years later, I haven't stopped. I absolutely love it!
I teach out of a number of books;Stick Control;Wilcoxen snare solos:Mini monster rock; Jazz studies(Spagnardi), and a few others, and also use articles from Modern Drummer magazine, as well as study materials composed by myself
