Hi, my name is Caitlin and I am a musician from the Northern Virginia and Boone, North Carolina areas. I have been a student of music for 16 years with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy with flute as my primary instrument. My secondary instruments include piano, guitar, and ukulele. I have at least 5 years of experience on each, if not more. My teaching style can best be described as student-centered, supportive, and fostering independent learning. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I enjoy teaching students how to learn and improve on their own while I offer guidance and knowledge when they are mastering new skills. In my lessons you can expect to learn to read music, and how to play in various styles of music. I like to tell my students that if you are being challenged that means you are learning and improving. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing the "ah-ha" face when a student learns a new skill or music concept. My students love that I include music that they enjoy to keep them motivated. I primarily teach flute, but I can also teach piano and guitar. My approach as a teacher is to be supportive while encouraging students to take on new challenges.
