Having a knack for rhythms and sounds and beating on almost anything he could hit on, his father gave him his 1st snare drum at the age of 10. Throughout his schooling he joined the school concert bands and studied music theory, all the while developing a prolific ear of sounds. This allowed him to quickly learn how to play a variety of concert and symphonic percussion instruments at a young age. Entering high school, Kevin became top percussionist at Druid Hills High School and maintained 1st chair for 4 years until graduation, while playing for all concert band ensembles. He also played in the school marching band, and with his dedication, talent and precision he was appointed to Drum Line Captain of over 20 students in his senior year. During his secondary schooling with the help of teachers and mentors, Kevin continued to fine tune his performance of varied styles of percussion and multiple instruments used in concert, marching band and symphony music. He went on to play percussion in the Marching Band at Fort Valley University and by his 3rd year of college was appointed Drumline Captain, leading over 45 musicians.
Kevin F. has over 29 years of music experience in the Covington area.
Kevin F. is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Drum Lessons
It is very important to start off with the basics. In the case of percussion, the basics are rudiments. Grip, and stick placement are very important as well in order to maximize your movements and ability to play. I teach how to count in measures because each style of percussion incorporates this. After we are comfortable with the basics, we will learn either sheet music, how to play the drumset, or cadences from marching bands etc.. I want to pull out the core of what drives the student to want to play the drums and teach what is needed and wanted
