About Me

Essie has always loved music and began playing piano at age 5. She graduated from Boston University with a degree in Music Education and went on to get her Master of Music degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. During her teaching career, Essie has had many memorable experiences with both her public school and private music students. High points have included her madrigal singers, show choir and vocal jazz group opening the Shrewsbury International Music Festival in the UK; winning first place at the International Music Festival in San Francisco; her choirs and soloist being invited to perform at the JFK Center of Performing Arts; and having private voice and piano students perform for hundreds while singing the National Anthem or competing and placing in numerous local and national talent shows. Essie believes every student is unique, and teachers are blessed with opportunities to develop those unique talents. In so doing, they make positive and significant differences in their students’ lives. She looks forward to developing new talent in GA, and hopes you will give her the chance to help you reach your goal and become the best “You” you can possibly become.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

First, It is important to get to know the student and try to establish a rapport with them. So whether the student is a beginner or at the intermediate level, my first lesson focuses on 1. Why the student wants to take lessons; 2. The students' and parents' goals or what they want to accomplish, and the timeline; 3. What the student's expectations are of me as their teacher; 4. What knowledge or experience (if any) they bring to the lesson; 5. Recommend music materials, set up a lesson time and recommend a practice schedule.
