Hurshel B. Bur.-

Hurshel graduated form Penn State University with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing, 1988 and from Texas Wesleyan University with a Masters Degree in Education specializing in English Language Arts. Hurshel is currently attending Capella University where he is pursuing his PhD in Professional Studies in education. Hurshel is an adventurous, creative “free spirit” who believes “not in thinking outside the box”  but  “in thinking without a box”.

Since age 12, Hurshel has shared his music with live audiences. His band Premonition, a 70s and 80s rock cover band, performed at house parties and shows. Hurshel teaches seven classes at Brookhaven and online and still clings tightly to his musical roots. He said his musical influences came from a mix of what his older sister, mom and dad listened to. Hurshel spent the first few years of his life in Rota,Spain with his family as the son of a now-retired Navy pilot. Hurshel said he remembers his dad picking up the classical guitar and inspiring him to do the same; he also learned to play Spanish guitar while living there, he said. He later learned to play the keyboard and drums, too. Hurshel went to Penn State University and earned a marketing degree, which he later used to help promote Los Angeles' music scene, and then as a deejay in Dallas from 1 at "The Bone." During his years of relocating and switching jobs, Hurshel said he befriended several musicians. While living in Los Angeles, he met and played in a band called The Clique with Matt Sharp, Weezer's first bass id The Clique's members all worked on other music projects, and that's when Sharp became a member of Weezer. He's been a member of Threesome for two years and The Police cover band Reggatta De Faux for one year. Hurshel is currently writing and performing original material as well as working on various media production projects.

Hurshel is a full time English instructor at Brookhaven College. He is also the Chairperson for the English Curriculum Committee for DCCCD. He has been with the DCCCD since 1997 and began his teaching at Texas Christian University where he taught experimental theater courses for TRIO programs.
