I've been playing guitar since childhood. Music has always been a strong force in my life, giving me so much joy and pushes my creativity to new areas of playing. Guitar playing is a way to express myself in a way that is all my own and only belongs to me. Teaching is a way that I can give something of what I've learned about guitar playing, over the years, to someone who's ready and interested.
Mitchell G. has over 50 years of music experience in the Oceanside area.
Mitchell G. is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
In the first lesson, I will determine my student's current skills and talk with him/her to understand their goals and expectations. Additionally, I want to get to know my student, their personality and their likes/dislikes of music. If my student is a child, I would also ask the parent(s) of their expectations. My student and I would practice and play the guitar so I can confirm the student's skill level. Afterwards, I would then proceed/talk with my student to formulate a study plan to work towards their goal. I will make a lesson plan that is in line with the student's expectations. If my student wants to learn how to learn basic skills or strengthen intermediate or expert guitar playing skills, I'll custom fit the lesson plan for him/her. If my student wants to learn a specific songs, I'll tailor the lessons accordingly. As I mentioned, I like to make a practice plan with my students. I observe and monitor my students' hand and finger movements to offer helpful suggestions to build their skills and make them better guitarists. Also, as an avid guitarist and collector, I usually bring another guitar to my lessons to show my students different types of guitars. They can play a different guitar other than their own, to spark their interest and to show the beauty, playing styles and design of the instruments.
Formal Education:
I've had formal classical guitar training, and I continue to learn new techniques and songs by playing with others and on my own.
Private Education:
I've taken many lessons with many different guitar teachers, throughout my life.
Performing Experience:
I've played with several bands in my life and been on stage in different venues, mostly in San Diego. I like to go to open mic's in neighborhood spots/bars/venues and perform with friends and with new folks who I meet at the venue.
Experience Teaching:
I have taught my children to play the guitar, starting by using a baby Taylor acoustic. All three of my kids are musically talented and we play often, sometimes all together and sometimes in different combos.
