1 Years
My name is Jay. I’ve been playing piano and writing compositions for 20+ years. Not classically trained, but know basic theory. I was a regular pianist at Glen Flora Country Club in Waukegan, and I’ve played in countless bands. I like helping people find their unique voice and style.
Jay L. has over 1 years of music experience in the Zion area.
Jay L. is proficient in and teaches Keyboard and Piano Lessons, Song Writing Lessons .What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
We’ll talk about different artists that the student likes and try to figure out why specific songs speak to them. Then we’ll get into the details of certain techniques that differentiate great songs from uninteresting ones. I have a pretty good knowledge of music history, so I’ll be able to introduce other artists and ideas not yet on the student’s radar. It’ll be fun. I’ll definitely help them improve and diversify the ideas and themes they want to convey.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
I’m not classically trained and I don’t read music too often. But I still can read music and have a good grasp of basic theory. I know most scales and time signatures. And I can shred, for sure. I know how to push people to get better. Playing the piano is pretty much an athletic competition for me. I can teach students to improvise. To me, that’s often more enjoyable than playing everything note for note.
