Michael Jay was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Mike started private drum lessons at 10 years old and continued studying drums throughout high school. Mike was accepted into the Los Angeles Music Academy Drum Program in Pasadena, CA and graduated in 2005. At the Los Angeles Music Academy, Mike studied under drummers such as Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey and Dave Beyer, to name a few. Mike taught private lessons in his hometown Pittsburgh, PA at Guitar Performance Systems which lead to him managing the Drum Department for 10 years. Mike teaches all age groups from beginner to advanced and all genres by customizing his lessons to each individual students goals and musical desires. Mike is experienced directing live band ensembles including rehearsals, set-ups, and live performances. Mike found himself traveling back to the west coast often to fill in as a live and studio drummer which drove to a permanent move to Southern, California. While Mike is not teaching, he is in the studio recording drum tracks performing live with bands and continuing his education by attending various Drum Clinics and studying privately with Glen Sobel Drummer Alice Cooper.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced
The students will learn to write out and play drum charts to their favorite or suggested songs. Students should expect to learn reading and writing drum notation in a swift manner, leading to a confidence boost in drums and everyday life. Students will also learn four-way coordination and start to break down their coordination barriers. Students should expect to have a lot of fun while learning how to play the drums.
