My name is Henry and I just moved to RVA from Columbia Missouri where I studied classical guitar with the acclaimed Anthony Glise. Before this, I was part of a local band that played several shows in and around St. Louis and taught students ranging in age from 5-65. My musical taste and background are extremely diverse and I'm comfortable teaching any style and any age group. Whether you're interested in how to play chords, scales, learn by ear, improvise or learn your favorite songs note for note, we will go at you pace and study what you want to learn!

Beginner -
Although Henry has just begun teaching piano/keys in the last few years, his students are loving the mix of improv, note reading, and theory training they can expect from each lesson. With the piano/keys, just about anything is possible. Join Henry for exciting and exploratory lessons in which you discover your own musical voice and build your musical vocabulary... if you're looking to learn out of a book the whole time, you're in the wrong place.
What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Henry currently plays bass for a local band and has played bass in several bands before this. He's taught several students their favorite songs, 'best practices' for full band scenarios, and theory. As always, you and Henry will work as a team to uncover the best learning path for you and your goals.
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced
Henry's been teaching guitar for over 11 years. Expect an open platform in which anything is possible. Open to all skill levels, genres, and goals. Whatever you'd like to learn, Henry's lessons are the best place for it.
What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Playing the drums is a blast so learning how to play them should be just as fun. Henry has taught drums for just shy of 5 years and has found that students benefit most when they are open to the journey of learning bit-by-bit; sharpening their skills through practice and inspiration. Expect to share some of your favorite artists or songs and we will go from there. NOTE: Henry teaches through an *electric drum kit*! Rim shots and double kick stroke technique will not be possible... unless your up for pantomime...

Professor Anthony Glise's Recommendation
1. How long have you known the candidate and in what capacity? -•• Henry was my private classical guitar student at the Univ. of Missouri for 3+ years. He was also a participant at "Red Socks and the Guitar," an international music festival that I direct in Chartres, France. Henry was also highly active and a performer with the MU Guitar Ensemble, and one of the original founders of the extracurricular MU Guitar Society at the university. 2. Why did employment end? if applicable -••NA 3. Would you rehire? If not, why not? -•• While not a "rehire," I would be thrilled to have more students with Henry's innate musical skills, amicable personality, and sincere commitment to his goals—encased in his tremendous ability to achieve those goals. 4. The applicant has applied to work as a Music Instructor. Do you see this as an appropriate position for this applicant? Why or why not? -•• Absolutely. As well as his work with me during his university musical course studies, Henry's calm, rational personality, would be a welcome addition to any corporate or community music program and his interpersonal skills from fellow students up to administrative superiors is astounding. 5. How would you characterize this applicant's performance on the job? -•• Henry is highly organized, rational, friendly, and has tremendous leadership skills. 6. Please describe her/his work habits such as: follows directions, flexible, reliable, demonstrated initiative, creative, accepted responsibility, good written/verbal skills? -•• Henry's ability to adhere to directions and carry out assignments is exceptional. He has tremendous self-drive while espousing a rare combination of organization with adaptability. His verbal and written skills insofar as I can judge from his verbal/written course assignments are exceptional; beyond what I have typically seen in most graduate students. 7. Is there any other information you would like to share that will help us assess his/her capabilities/suitability for the position? -•• While hardly a normal job application citation, Henry literally saved my life. While picking up Henry and several other participants for the "Red Socks" Festivalat the Brussels Belgium airport, we were on the train headed back to France. I had recently had a heart attack and unfortunately unbeknownst to anyone, the US doctors had over-presecibed several blood thinners which resulted in a cerebral hematoma—a "blood leak" around the brain. Roughly 10 minutes after our train departed from Brussels, that blood pooling caused me to go into a life-threatening seizure. On the train—in the midst of Brussels rush-hour traffic all without speaking a word of French or Flemish—Henry had the forsight to pull the emergency brake, stop the train, call an ambulance, and with not an iota of exageration, Henry saved my life. The neuro surgeon in Brussels confirmed that if the brain bleed had continued it would have crushed my left temporal lobe, which would have resulted in a coma and near immediate death. The following 5 days as I was still in the hospital, the festival faculty, Henry, and a few other festival participants assumed responsible for organizing those first days of the event, maintining the schedule, while assuring the other festival participants and the local festival sponsors that the situation was under control. Again, while this is hardly the sort of recommendation I have ever written, I cannot stress enough the level of responsibility, maturity, and support that Henry showed during this extreme event and of course his musical skills are exceptional. Few people are thrown into this type of scenario and fewer still could have managed the situation in such a mature, rational, and supportive manner. You will rarely find another young man with greater inate leadership and interpersonal relationship skills, combined with his astute musical prowess and a "take action" personaity.
