Timothy began playing the drums at the age of 10. He's now 40, so that is 30 years! Over those years, he developed his skills by listening to all different kinds of music. He gained performance experience in the Twin Cities area by playing at such venues as the Turf Club and First Avenue and with acts such as Fog and Obsequiae. Though Timothy can teach many different genres of music, his musical personal favorites are Jazz, Metal, and African rhythms, which had great influence on his style of playing.Timothy loves music because it is a healing force, and it helps people build confidence, and loves teaching music because he loves sharing his enthusiasm for music with others. What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced
I emphasize solid technique, but only so far as it helps the student accomplish their goals. I can teach reading if they are interested, and I'll make the case as to why they should be, but won't force it. I do focus on listening and learning by ear, as well as how to tune the drums and get the sound they want. I will always expose students to a wide variety of styles to they can hear something they may not have heard before.
Formal Education:
Bachelors Degree in Ethnomusicology
Private Education:
Private lessons with numerous teachers. I have studied jazz drumset, classical percussion, African and Afro-Cuban drumming extensively.
Performing Experience:
20 years professional gigging experience. I have toured all around the US, Europe and Japan.
