Originally from rural Northeast Ohio, I grew up playing jazz in the Chicago area. After finishing my undergraduate studies in Illinois I moved to Scotland where I spent four years studying traditional music, playing in the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, pursuing a PhD in music composition and touring and recording with folk, indie and rock bands. My wife and I moved to Seattle in 2010 and I am currently playing trumpet and bass with a couple of indie rock bands in town.

I have: a High School Diploma from the Larkin Visual and Performing Arts Academy in Elgin, IL; BA from Northern Illinois University in Anthropology (Ethnomusicology); HNC in Music from the University of the Highlands and Islands in Lionacleit, Scotland; and a PhD in Composition from Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland.
Private Education:
I studied double bass with Marlene Rosenberg for four years, sitar with Vijay Verma for three years and trumpet with Bruce Dougherty for five years. Over the years I have also studied mandolin, guitar and viola da gamba.
Performing Experience:
I have toured, performed and recorded extensively in both the UK and the US with groups as diverse as indie rock bands, jazz trios, the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra and Scottish and Norwegian folk groups as either a bassist or a trumpet player.
Experience Teaching:
I have been teaching guitar, trumpet and bass (electric and upright) privately for nine years. I have also taught at universities and community music schools in both the UK and US.
