Eddie began playing the drums at the age of 17. Over the years, he developed his skills further by taking lessons from some of the best teachers around and consistently playing with some of the best bands on the East Coast. He gained performance experience in the world of drumming by playing at such diverse venues as Theaters, nightclubs, coliseums, weddings & parties, corporate affairs, Jazz clubs, Rock concerts, Soul & R&B venues, Big Band events, & Top Country shows and with acts such as The Rivieras, the original Drifters, Tanya Tucker, Paul Revere (of Paul Revere & the Raiders), the Four Tops, and many others. Though Eddie can teach many different genres of music, his musical personal favorites are Funk, Rock, Jazz, Latin, and Rudimental drumming all of which had great influence on his style of playing. Eddie loves music because it's so much a part of who he is and loves teaching music because he loves passing his knowledge and experience on to others. Eddie gives private lessons at his studio in the greater Charleston, SC area. Whether you are a Beginner or a seasoned Professional, Eddie can help you expand and enhance your playing. I have Eddie to thank for the priceless skills I developed
I grew up taking piano lessons, but in my teenage years I decided I needed to try something new. I started taking lessons in the back of a local guitar store where my dad used to shop. This is where I met Eddie. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher to introduce me to the world of drumming. Of course I wanted to jump right in and play some Zeppelin, but as any good teacher should, Eddie greatly emphasized the importance of learning basic rudimentary patterns. If I could get those down, I was on the path to playing whatever I wanted. I never knew I would come to love something called a paradiddle so much! At the end of some of our lessons when I just wanted to jam, Eddie would play his djembe while I played the set and vice-versa. He also opened my eyes beyond all the typical Zeppelin stuff that all teenagers want to play to Brazilian and Afro-Cuban beats. I fell in love with that Latin style of drumming. I could go on about my love for drums, but the bottom line is, I have Eddie to thank for the priceless skills I developed throughout my years as his student. Couldn't have done it without you, Eddie! Thank you! Elizabeth Gouldin wrote on Fri, 18 Jan 2019
Eddie has the Chops!
If you want to work with a drum instructor who has performed professionally, is a great communicator, and has the ability to enhance any drummer's skill, then I highly recommend Eddie. Eddie possesses the ability to make the difficult understandable. He also has a keen interest in the "Now" of drumming, which when mixed with his extensive knowledge of drumming history, is a potent combination that greatly benefits his students. This is especially important for beginning drummers who need to learn not only how to strike a drum, but also where the various aspects of what we do as drummers originated. This enhances the student's understanding and appreciation of the drum "Community". We are part of a world of rhythm makers with a history to be understood and appreciated. Bottom line: If you want to learn to be a drummer or become a better drummer, Eddie has the chops, knowledge, communication skills and the musical integrity to get you there. He is such a great teacher and a great person
My name is Daniel and I have been playing drums since I was 8 years old. I am 21 now. My first lesson at the age of 8 was with Eddie. He started by teaching drums the way they should be taught. Fundamentals first. He is such a great teacher and a great person as well. He is the reason why I am able to enjoy and participate in one of life's greatest things: Music. I believe that without Eddie, I might have lost interest in the art of Drumming. Do not let this opportunity pass you by! Get in touch with him and you will find out what I did when I was 8. Sincerely, Daniel Bluford Daniel Bluford wrote on Fri, 18 Jan 2019
The man knows his drumming, and he has a passion for it that is contagious
When I first got into drumming in high school, I went through a couple of teachers before meeting Eddie. Eddie is a great teacher-he starts with the basics and fundamentals that every drummer needs to know-proper form, technique, rhythm, etc. He is a very down to earth guy, and his instructions are always clear and easy to understand-he never condescends to his students, regardless of skill level. His musical knowledge is immense-He can play and teach pretty much any style of drumming, from classic rock and roll/jazz/blues to Latin American rhythm standards. Eddie backs up all of his musical knowledge with some serious skills on the set-I loved when he would just jam out with me after a session. I considered Eddie a friend, and not just a teacher-he's a very relaxed, down to earth guy. If you're a beginner or even if you've been playing for years, I'm sure you can learn a lot from Eddie. The man knows his drumming, and he's got a passion for it that is contagious. Edward DeLong wrote on Fri, 18 Jan 2019
Great Music Teacher for my son
I have no hesitancy in recommending Eddie to anyone who wants to learn how to master drum playing. He taught my son for two years. He is patient and good at gauging his student's level of ability. He provides young students fun ways to motivate their love for drum playing, He knows what kids like to listen to! I highly recommend Eddie to anyone who might be interested in just starting out on the drums or for picking up where they may have left off playing the drums and are considering picking it up again!--Callie K.
