13 Years
Amanda is a vocalist, songwriter and music educator. With 13+ years experience, she has taught both private lessons and in a classroom general music setting. She enjoys working with students of all ages and musical backgrounds, helping them to pursue their passions and goals. Amanda received her bachelors degree in music education from the University of Northern Colorado, then pursued her master’sdegree in jazz vocal performance from Roosevelt University. There, she quickly began singing with some of the greatest musicians on the Chicago jazz scene, as well as finding opportunities to perform as a professional choir member in groups such as the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Grant Park Chorus. After a few years focusing on jazz, a swift change of musical direction came as she began to write her own country/bluegrass-inspired music, and she formed her band, Mandy & the Bandits. They became a fixture on the Chicago indie music scene, toured the midwest and parts of the south and recorded two albums of original music together. Amanda continues pursuing her passion for songwriting and performing as a solo artist, gleaning inspiration from every possible corner.
Amanda C. has over 13 years of music experience in the Albuquerque area.
Amanda C. is proficient in and teaches Keyboard and Piano Lessons, Vocal Lessons .What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
For younger students, n addition to technique I like to include ear-training and singing solfege, to encourage the growth of the whole musician. I facilitate improvisation and composition to the extent the student is comfortable. While reading music is incredibly important, I also like to encourage students to learn things by ear. I like to chart out goals with my students so that they have music they can expect to attain mastery of in the near future, while also developing long-term goals.
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
I first identify my students' musical interests and previous experience as a place to start, then begin building out by encouraging students to try different styles of music. With a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of: posture, breathing, and healthy vocal technique, I lead students to find their own unique self-expression through their voice. My goal is to help each student to develop stage-presence and poise during performance. Depending on the needs and skill level of the student, I also incorporate ear-training through solfege, and stress the importance of good musicianship.
