About Me
Born and raised in central Mississippi, I was called the well rounded kid by most adults. I did just about everything, taking in every experience and opportunity presented to me. I played soccer, was on the Mississippi Makos swim team, volunteered at the Jackson Zoo, and took violin lessons. Being home-schooled made it easy to be very involved in extracurricular activity and to really focus on my interests.  At age 11, I began taking violin lessons, fell in love with it, and never looked back. Violin was my main love and I was involved with anything that would keep my fingers moving including the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra, orchestra/ensemble camps, the Mississippi All-State Orchestra, private lessons, and gigs for special occasions. I attended Belhaven University, where I performed with the Belhaven Symphony Orchestra, the String Orchestra, and quartets, along with my solo work. I graduated with my Bachelor's in Violin Performance from Belhaven University. After taking 3 years off from school working and teaching, I decided that going back to school was in my best interest as the learning process is never complete. I applied and auditioned at Texas State University, was accepted and spent the next two years getting my Master's in Violin Performance, graduating May of 2017. I have taught privately in a studio, from the comfort of students' homes, and in a classroom setting. My favorite thing about teaching is how much I learn from it; the more I teach, the more I grow and learn. My ongoing goal is to always practice, motivate, and improve, and I would like to share that mutual goal and fill the world with beautiful and inspiring music!

What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

In the first lesson we will figure out what size violin the student needs (all adults need a full sized violin no matter height), we will talk about the parts of the violin, proper care of it, and then how to hold the violin with proper posture. We will do exercises with the bow to get comfortable but until the violin is able to be held properly we won't use the bow much. The violin is the most challenging (according to everyone) and rewarding (in my totally biased opinion) instrument to learn so we learn the violin and bow separately until they are comfortable!
