Steve brings 44 years of drumming experience to his post as a DRUM INSTRUCTOR. Steve benefited from 12 years of formal instruction at Rosso Music and the Rinaldi Academy of Music, both in Laurel, MD, before studying privately with Washington, D.C. area percussionist Doug Day.
Steve began privately teaching students of all ages in 1998, instructing beginners and intermediate players alike. He specializes in helping students improve their hand-eye coordination, sticking and bass drum techniques. While having some rhythmic ability is a plus, Steve helps students get the most of of their drumming efforts. "All you need is a pair of sticks and the desire to learn," he says. With that desire comes devoting ample time to practice. "You get out of drumming what you put into it," he adds.
Steve also stresses versatility to today's aspiring drummers and is well-versed in rock, country and R&B genres. Learing to play drums during Rock's heyday, Steve's playing style has been greatly influenced by John Bonham and Keith Moon. Practicing what he teaches, Steve stays busy as live performer with several area groups and as a studio musician.
Additionally, Steve teaches drum set maintenance, tuning, set up and cleaning which are just as important as learning how to play.
