Joshua Mar. is a Filipino-American composer and classical guitarist from North Carolina. He is currently a graduate student at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro pursuing his Masters in Music Composition and studying under Dr. Mark Engebretson and Dr. Alejandro Rutty. Joshua graduated from Campbell University in 2011, completing his undergraduate studies in three years (2008-2011), with a B.A. Music Composition and B.A. in Guitar Performance. In his three years at Campbell he has studied Composition and Orchestration with Dr. Howard Moran Whitley and Dr. William Pruett, Guitar with Dr. Milen Parashkevov, and Conducting with Dr. Charles Dwayne Wilson. While studying at Campbell, Joshua served as the Principle Bassoonist in the Cape Fear Symphony and Principle Trombone in the Campbell University Wind Ensemble. He was also a member of the Campbell University Percussion Ensemble, Campbell University Guitar Ensemble, Campbell University Jazz Band, Campbell University Pep Band (playing Mellophone), and served as a Student Conductor and Student Composer/Arranger for multiple Campbell and community ensembles. Outside of school, Joshua has also received the rank of Eagle Scout in 2006 and the title of Master Mason in 2010. He currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina..

Performing Experience:
Given several full-length classical guitar recitals (1-1.5 hours) and performed with many jazz combos/big bands, blues trios/groups, and rock bands for 5-6 years.
Experience Teaching:
Have taught young children through adults how to play a variety of styles. Specialize in classical guitar, but also very proficient in jazz, blues, and rock. I believe in teaching students how to read notated music in order to better understand and communicate in the musical world, but also understand/allow/teach reading tabulature as it has become a norm in the modern day. I strongly encourage the learning of traditional music notation, but will not enforce learning it upon anyone.
