About Me
Hi, my name is Madison and I am a vocalist from Atlanta. I have been a student of music for 15 years. I hold a BA and MA in Music Theory and am working toward my PhD in Music Theory at the University of Oregon. I enjoy singing Faure and Schubert, as well as I modern pop, country, and contemporary music. My teaching style can best be described as laid-back, encouraging, and patient. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying "Perfect practice makes perfect performance" and that learning should be a fun experience. In my lessons, you can expect to learn proper technique, style, theory, and history as applicable. I like to tell my students that they can do anything with the right amount of dedication and practice. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing those moments when a concept or technique clicks, and it just makes sense. My favorite performance was a Russian tribute concert, where every piece was sung in Russian or composed by a Russian composer. My students love that I am understanding but also don’t let them make excuses. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach clarinet and beginning piano. My approach as a teacher is to encourage proper technique while making sure the student enjoys playing or making music. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

My students can expect to improve and polish their technical abilities, while also refining their performance and stage presence. My students should expect to know their music before the lesson, so that our time can be maximized during the lesson. My students should expect to be willing to relax and do various exercises that may seem silly, but will improve their technique and performance.

What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

My students can expect a technique and expression focused lesson. They should know the majority of their music prior to the lesson, and be ready with to go over difficult passages in the lesson. They can expect stylistic background and technique corrections.

Formal Education:

I earned my BA in Music Theory and am currently pursuing my MA in Music Theory. My primary instrument of study in undergraduate was voice.

Private Education:

I have 9 years of private lessons on voice, and 3 years private instruction on clarinet. I have 10 years experience in instrumental ensembles, and 20 years experience in vocal ensembles.

Performing Experience:

I have performed in many settings, from individual recitals to ensemble performances. I have performed as a soloist for 6 major classical works (including Buxtehude and Mozart). I have performed in cabarets and modern pop recitals as well. I have been leading worship in both a contemporary and traditional setting for over 10 years.

Experience Teaching:

My teaching experience began with leadership positions in musical ensembles from a young age. More recently, I taught voice and woodwinds at a local school of music in Atlanta. I also have experience teaching collegiate theory and aural skills classes, and worked as a Supplemental Instructor as an undergraduate. My teaching experience stretches beyond music, though. I also teach English online to children ages 3-12 in Beijing.
