About Me

Austin native Justin is a touring musician, educator, and composer who has been playing various instruments since the age of five. He earned his degree in Commercial Music Management at Austin Community College, and has also attended Concordia University and the Art Institute of Houston. Justin’s primary instruments are bass and guitar, but he is also proficient in electronic music programming and drums. Justin’s live experience includes playing bass for both national and local acts, and he has shared the stage with Roger Creager, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Dale Watson, Sam Riggs, Wolfmother, She Wants Revenge, Kenny Rogers and OK Go. He has played a variety of venues across the US--from the famed Whiskey A Go-Go in Hollywood, CA, The Wormy Dog Saloon in Oklahoma City and Hard Rock Casinos across the country, to the Cowboy Western Club in Mexia, TX and Austin’s own Emo’s. Justin has contributed his skills to 15+ albums, seven of which had global releases. One of his most fulfilling career experiences to date was three years spent teaching Rock Band classes at Austin ISD elementary and middle schools, where he provided instruction in guitar, bass and drums in the AISD after-school program.

We will discuss your musical interests and goals, and our initial discussion will let me know where you are so that we can work towards where you want to be in the future. My lessons are informal, engaging and we can go at your own pace. We will learn mic'ing techniques, how to get proper input, basic editing and creating a good rough mix.

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

We will discuss your musical interests and goals, and our initial discussion will let me know where you are so that we can work towards where you want to be in the future. My lessons are informal, engaging and we can go at your own pace. I will encourage you to share your own ideas while you learn about chord progression and song structure, so that you get the most out of the lessons. I encourage students to let me know if there's something they feel they need extra time and practice on, or if I need to explain something in a different way.

What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

Beginner -

We will discuss your musical interests and goals, and then an initial skills assessment will let me know where you are so that we can work towards where you want to be in the future. My lessons are informal, engaging and we can go at your own pace. We will learn proper technique, guitar maintenance and different playing styles. I encourage students to let me know if there's something they feel they need extra time and practice on, or if I need to explain something differently. I don't spend a lot of time talking at you, because I want you to gain as much hands-on experience of the instrument as you can.
