Hailing from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, Atilio grew up amongst a lively and diverse music scene, which acted as a catalyst for his music inspiration. As time went on and his love for music grew, he became more and more attached to his favorite instrument: the drums. After high school, Atilio went on to further his music studies with a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Ever since, he has been touring and recording professionally. When he is not on the road, he is dedicated to giving back to the music community through teaching as a drum instructor in the Virginia/Washington D.C. area as well as through online video lessons.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons
As a freelance session drummer in the professional music industry, I have recorded and toured with a wide variety of artists and groups from various backgrounds. As a result, this has helped me attain a better understanding of what it takes to become a successful musician. For my beginner students, this could mean something as simple as learning your favorite song at the moment and being able to play it on the drums! For my intermediate students, I like to build off what we learned in Beginners and expand further into skills like chart reading interpretation, hand and foot control/independence, as well as branching out into other genre specific styles Mambo, Jazz, Calypso/Soca, Reggae, etc.. For my more advanced students, our lessons may be spent discussing and working out advanced concepts such as polyrhythms, compositional improvisation, freedom in odd time signatures, and stylistic accuracy to name a few. All this being said, you are by no means limited to only learning from the curriculum I have set. When it comes to drum lessons with me, the world is your oyster and I am just a big encyclopedia to help you along. If you want to deviate from the lesson set in place, I will be more than happy to accommodate you and what you would like to learn from me during that lesson!
