Inspired by the phenomenal Jack Black movie "School of Rock", Jacob began playing drums at the age of 8. Over the years, he developed his skills further by performing in his middle and high school bands and jazz bands, as well as various local acts during his time at University of Texas at Austin. As a result of learning how to play various percussion instruments throughout these years Jacob also taught himself how to play piano at age 13. He gained ample performance experience in the Austin area by playing at such venues as Mohawk, Hotel Vegas, and live on Fox 7 Austin with acts such as Bleached Roses, Good Marks, and Escape Goat. Though Jacob can teach many genres of music, his musical personal favorites are funk, alternative, and indie rock which had great influence on his style of playing. Jacob loves music because it has become a primary creative outlet for him and loves teaching music because he wants others to be able to share in that passion. What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Lesson plans depend on student goals and experience level. For more beginner levels my students can expect a rudimentary focused and structured lesson plan. We will focus on basic drumming principles, learning how to play in time, good stick control, and learn how to read drum set sheet music. For more experienced drummers who have a general understanding of basic drumming technique, we will focus more on getting creative with the drum set, expand on fills and improvising in time with other musicians, while continuing to maintain a solid drumming foundation. Jamming is an essential experience for the drummer, and being able to become a reliable backbone while adding your special flavor of drumming will set you apart when it comes to finding musicians to play with.
