Hi! My name is Matt, and I've been in love with guitar and bass guitar for a little under eight years. I have experience playing a variety of styles, from folk to rock and pop to experimental and jazz. As a teacher, I'm most interested in discovering the different ways my students learn as individuals; there's no one way to learn an instrument, so let's explore and figure out what's best for you!

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
To discover new ways of communicating in their songs. As a songwriting teacher, I encourage students to do away with cliches and bland phrasing, instead opting for unusual or unexpected lyric choices to drive a song home. We will discuss modulation and chord changes along with other facets of song-craft. As an exercise, we will attempt to write songs in the styles of various famous artists and bands.
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
For their individual learning styles to be accommodated. It is my strong belief that everyone learns differently, and instead of enforcing a set curriculum, I intend to brainstorm with my students to determine the easiest and most fun ways for them to learn. I am able to teach songs, as well as chords, scales, modes and improvisation.
What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
To learn the foundational power of the bass guitar in popular music. In my own experience, so much of playing bass has to do with understanding its function and its ability to impact and propel a band's sound. We'll learn songs as well as basic technique. We'll also practice playing to recordings for maximum groove potency.
