Ahoy! Im Laura, and I have been a musician for 20 years. My musical influences include everything from Spanish classical and Irish folk, to punk rock, indie and modern pop. My teaching style can best be described as laid back and flexible. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I pay attention to the individual goals of the student, and what makes them motivated to learn. I focus more on a laid back and productive sessions, and less on technical theory. In my lessons, you can expect to learn whatever it is you want to learn. I like to tell my students that playing music gives you a secret language that only some people will be able to understand. My favorite thing about teaching is watching the satisfaction that comes with expressing ones self through music. My favorite performance was drumming in VCUs production of Grease. My students love that I act like a kid but treat then like adults. I also have years of experience working in an academic setting with children on the autism spectrum. My approach as a teacher is to relax and let the child guide the lesson. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
