James P.

James began playing the drums at age 9. Over the years, he developed his skills by taking private lessons, playing in a variety of different music ensembles and bands, and earning a BA in Percussion Performance from the University of Massachusetts. James has performed with and taught school bands, jazz groups, orchestras, marching drum lines, and percussion ensembles throughout New England, California, North Carolina, and Virginia. He teaches all percussion instruments, including drum set. Though James can teach many genres of music, his personal favorites are jazz, rock, and classical, which all influenced his playing style. Music is a language, and in his lessons you can expect to learn how to listen, perform, read, and write music for drums. James's favorite thing about teaching music is the look in a student's eyes when they realize they have mastered a new skill.
