About Me

Asa has always loved music from an early age. He began playing piano at the age of 4 and continued his education by learning the guitar, drums, and becoming a vocalist by the age of 13. His musical influences include Drake, Sam Cooke, Frank Ocean, The Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars. Asa's favorite thing about music is how it brings people together and allows you to express yourself emotionally and his favorite thing about teaching music is sharing the enthusiasm, love, and passion he has for music with other students. One of his favorite teaching experiences was showing someone how to form 3-part harmonies when writing vocal melodies for songs. I love using 3-part harmonies when writing songs as it adds depth and emotional complexity to a track. When taking lessons with Asa you can expect to learn a lot about music theory in addition to learning how to play and you can also expect be excited about learning to play music. He looks forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about your specific goals, interests, and learning style. Book a lesson now and get connected right away!

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

My students will know how to play a multitude of scales on the piano, beginning with c-major as this is the easiest scale for learning the piano. I would teach my students how to write and read the musical notes on a sheet of music, and from there I would teach them how to play the musical notes they read from sheet music. Depending on how advanced the student gets in his playing I would add chord-lessons, advanced rhythm lessons such as 16th notes and triplet notes. However, any student that enrolls in my piano lessons will learn how to read, write, and play music.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

My students will understand how to read/write drums pieces, and will the basics of playing the drums. When teaching a student how to play the drums it is very important to establish their coordination level, as playing the drums requires serious hand-eye coordination levels and the ability to play multiple rhythms on 4 body parts. With beginners I would work them through simple quarter-note/eighth note beats to develop their coordination and rhythmic abilities. I will simultaneously teach them to read the beats they are playing so they may transcribe songs they enjoy listening to on their own for the purpose of learning how to play the songs. Additionally, my students will know how to create their own original percussion pieces by writing out the notes and beat they play.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

I have composed, published, and performed over 30 original pieces of music. My students will be able to find their own unique way of song-writing and expressing themselves by learning the basic fundamentals initially of music. As we establish their skills and comprehension of essential music concepts like scales, chord theory, melodies, harmonies, etc. I would help aide them by working with them step-by-step to form their own original songs. In my own music I produce 100% of the instruments played throughout as I can play the drums, guitar, piano, and sing. When it comes to writing lyrics that is more of a personal endeavor, however, I would guide my students in their song-writing by instructing them to write meaningful personal lyrics. Song-writing is not easy, however my preferred method of writing a song is first choosing a key which I want to write the song in. From there I would find a tempo then create a chord-progression from 3-5 chords contained within that scale. Once a chord-progression is established I can then add things into the song such as drums. Typically, once I have established a drum beat I will create melodies, bass lines, and add other textures to the song that follow the chord progression established.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

Students can expect to have a firm grasp and understanding of how the theory works on the guitar. Such as the notes of standard tuning e, b, g, d, a, e, and then also how to understand the note order from fret 1 of the high e string throughout the entire fret board of every string on the guitar. I also can read and write music so I would begin to teach students the fundamentals of understanding the musical ledgers and alphabet. My students will not only be able to play guitar, but if they continue to take lessons with me they will be able to compose and perform their own original pieces, as I would make sure they understand concepts such as chord progressions, musical scales, melodies, etc.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

All of my students can expect to have a solid grasp of fundamental music theory no matter what instruments I teach. Understanding how musical scales and the musical alphabet works is vital to singing or playing an instrument, as being able to understand how a key works allows a vocalist to sing-in key and retain a harmonious sound while performing. With a vocalist I would make sure they are singing properly by engaging their diaphragm and limiting singing through the noise or with the throat so they don't damage their vocal chords. Depending on the skill of the student I would either take them through understanding and writing out melodies, or even as advanced as writing and performing harmonies. Overall, my music students will be able to read, write, and play any instrument I teach them.
