After playing trumpet for a few years I begged and pleaded my parents to allow drums in the house.  I had a strange attraction to percussion.  I was ten.  I have been deeply involved with music ever since.  I have classical training as a percussionist, performed with school jazz ensembles and percussion ensembles, led my high school's award winning marching band's drumline, and toured as a percussionist and keyboardist with a rock band.  I have a BA in Music Technology from Virginia Tech, where I graduated from in 2008.  I have since toured nationally and internationally as a digital audio engineer for acts including Miley Cyrus and Rihanna.  My experience as a teacher comes mostly from high school and college.  I have had students many years older than me and as young as 8.  (There was one student with learning disabilities but an ernest love of drums that is memorable.  It took some creative lesson plans to keep his attention!)  I work well with children.  My teaching philosophy is to establish a solid foundation of fundamental technique, coordination and timing while always keeping musicality in focus as the end goal.  I appreciate and have performed in all genres of music.
