About Me

Amy serves as section violist in the San Antonio Symphony, substitute violist with the Chicago Symphony and Fort Worth Symphony, and has been a member of the Austin Symphony, New World Symphony, and Ann Arbor Symphony. She has participated in the Vermont Mozart Festival, YOA Orchestra of the Americas, Aspen Music Festival and American Academy of Conducting Orchestras, National Repertory Orchestra, Chautauqua Music Festival, New York String Orchestra Seminar, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She received her BM viola degree with highest honors from the University of Michigan where she studied with Professor Yizhak Schotten. Amy was first place winner of the American Viola Society 2014–15 Orchestral Excerpts Competition, has received a Farwell Trust award from the Musicians Club of Women (Chicago), and was a finalist in the NFAA/YoungArts program. Amy is also an accomplished recorder player. She was featured as recorder soloist with flutist Mary Stolper in Telemann’s Concerto for Recorder and Flute with Chicago’s Music of the Baroque under the direction of Maestro Nicholas Kraemer. In 2011, Amy presented the United States premiere of Sir Malcolm Arnold’s Recorder Concerto with the I’Solisti Chamber Orchestra. Amy has also served as recorder player with the New World Symphony in performances of Water Music by Telemann and Handel. Amy has appeared as violin, viola, and recorder soloist with several Illinois orchestras and most recently as viola soloist in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the Vermont Mozart Festival.

What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Intermediate and Advanced students should expect to bring music that they are working on and ask me questions about topics such as bowings, fingerings, articulations, and dynamics. Beginners will learn how to hold the instrument and learn how to read music.
