Marlene began learning to play music with the piano in third grade. Since then, she has tried clarinet, oboe, flute, piccolo, french horn, marching cymbals, violin and —most recently— theremin. Though she has experience with all these instruments, her strongest by far is the oboe, which she studied at West Chester University of PA. She has a degree in music composition as well as a degree in English. Marlene was honored to be awarded third place in the American Prize for Composition, student division, in the 2 competition season and was the only undergraduate student to medal.

What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Theory and form will first be discussed, as well as new listening assignments after each lesson. Students will be encouraged to purchase and study scores of the pieces being examined over longer periods of time. Lessons can be catered to students' interests.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Lessons will cover lyrics or source material, form, instrumentation, and composition. It is recommended that the student have access to a music software such as Sibelius, Finale, or MuseScore for playback during lessons.
