What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Over the years I have focused mainly on 80s-era hard rock and heavy metal (Eddie Van Halen is the reason I picked up the guitar). I would be a good choice for a student looking to learn the 80s "hair band" style of guitar playing. I utilize tablature as my written teaching method (for beginners: Tablature is a musical notation method specific to stringed instruments, as opposed to sheet music which can be applied to virtually any instrument). Beginner students can expect to learn the basics of the electric guitar and how it operates (the parts of the guitar and how they work, how to string and tune your guitar, basic maintenance, etc), followed by an introduction to keys, notes, picking, fretting, strumming, and basic chords. This will be followed by an intro to scales and how they apply. An intermediate student can expect to first run through a brief assessment of his/her current skillset, in order to find a good jumping-off point to get to you to the next level(s). This may include more challenging chord patterns, advanced picking and fretting techniques (alternate picking, hammer-ons and pull-offs, harmonics, etc.), new scales, intro to music theory, tricks to enhance and color your playing, etc. A more definitive approach will be nailed down after the assessment.
