If you love to feel the rumble of music, or have a swing in your step and love to move it on the dance floor, then playing the bass may be the thing for you. The heart and soul of most recorded music, the groove of a great Motown song, the foundation and power of rock, and the 2-step in a great country song all begin and end with the bass line.
I have played bass for over 25 years and am well trained not only in my preferred instrument, but also in theory and advanced fundamentals of music. Most importantly, I understand groove. Most music store type lessons have a guitar player teaching kids to play bass. While the notes up and down the neck correlate most of the time, (depending on the instrument), the feel and approach is completely different. I am not a frustrated guitarist who has become a bass player, and I can pass a great approach to and understanding of the instrument to you.
Beginner to intermediate players, with me, will work on understanding the notes on the neck, scales and modes, beginning theory, counting and time, reading basic lead sheets and Nashville type chord charts, and finding and playing great supporting lines to accent and drive any style of music you choose.
Lessons include use of amp and cable (just bring your instrument), printed lessons, set-up of your instrument, if needed. I will also re-string or even clean strings if needed. You will provide your bass, a folder or binder to store your lessons, and an open mind and willing attitude.
If you do not have a bass, I have some that can be used for the lesson only; they can not travel with student. If you need assistance picking or purchasing an instrument, I will be glad to make suggestions and offer assistance to find a great instrument in many price ranges.
