10 Years
Hi, my name is Esther and I am a pianist from upstate NY. I've lived and studied in Chattanooga, TN for the past 10 years but recently moved to Philadelphia. I have been a student of music for most of my life! I have a deep appreciation for classical and jazz, but there are many more genres and styles of playing that inspire me. My teaching style is very personable. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I want to meet students where they are. I want to try to understand how you learn and think about things, instead of forcing you to fit in a program or curriculum. My favorite thing about teaching is connecting with people, sharing my excitement and love for music, and inspiring young kids to get excited too! My approach as a teacher is to listen to you and your needs and tune in to your learning style. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
I typically teach from a classical understanding of the instrument. We will work on technique, form, and theory. I really love to translate those concepts to modern day use. If students are interested, we can explore sight reading skills, reading and writing chord charts, rhythmic basics. While I am classically trained, I do play in bands and play a lot of different synths, drums and other electronic instruments. I like to use those instruments and the skill sets I have to keep lessons interesting and dynamic. I find that it can be helpful for students to have one or two "serious" pieces they're working on, in addition to having a "fun" song. I want students to be self-motivated on some level, if they are not interested in pursuing music, they won't. I want my students to learn and develop real and necessary skills, but I also want them to feel free and excited and imagine all that could be possible with music, for themselves and their future work.
