Hi there, my name is Sam and I am a 20 year old musician from Austin, Texas. When I was 7 years old, I sat down at my grandmother's piano and began to tinker away, figuring out Mary Had a Little Lamb very quickly and came to the realization that I had a good ear for this! After that I took piano lessons, played recitals, and in middle school played the clarinet. It was at this time that I found my love for my primary instrument, the guitar. Since I was about 15 I have been writing my own songs, recording some, and by 17 I was performing in bands around town. Since then I have played near 150 shows locally, and toured our great state of Texas. I certainly have a grasp on music, but don't have very much experience teaching, so I will learn from you just as much as you learn from me! I want to provide a very personal learning experience, teaching you not just how to play, but how to create! My aim as a teacher is to inspire, and set you up with the tools to understand what you're playing. Being knowledgeable in several instruments, I hope to give the view point not of a guitarist, or a pianist, but of a musician. Thank you for reading, hope to hear from you soon!
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
I have been writing songs for about 5 years, and I have learned that what I am best at is developing interesting chord progressions, I understand how to create tension and resolve it.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Piano, being my first instrument, and having taken years of lessons, I feel I can quite easily explain what's going on theory wise. Piano is incredibly intuitive and prime for understanding the concepts at their most basic.
What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons
As a guitarist, I feel I can adequately provide a foundation for simple bass playing, understanding chord progressions and scale shapes and their relation to one another.
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
My dad is a country fan, and I am into experimental/jazz rock, meaning my roots are in the basics, the foundations of music, yet I can offer a lot of knowledge in the realm of interesting and modal soloing, including some fast mildly shred-like techniques.
