Mitchell M.

Mitchell began his life journey in music at the early age of 4, starting musical instruction at the Oklahoma Baptist University Music Preparatory Department. Mitchell found a passion in piano, taking private lessons from the distinguished piano teacher, Kaye Shields. While under her instruction, Mitchell achieved multiple competition wins, placements, and distinctions, as well as attaining the State Superintendents Excellence in Arts Award. He continued his music education at OBU, studying with pianist Dr. Michael Dean. While at OBU, Mitchell continued his success as a pianist and musician, receiving multiple awards and honors, including twice winning the annual Concerto-Aria competition. He also served as the accompanist for the acclaimed Bison Glee Club. His senior year brought the recognition of the Outstanding Senior in Music Award, and the W.P. Blake Award (a university wide award based on leadership and achievement). While at OBU, Mitchell discovered his love of musical leadership and community within conducting. In 2020, Mitchell accepted the offer to study orchestral conducting with Dr. Jun Kim at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. At UWM, he is also TA for the piano department, studying under acclaimed pianist, Elena Abend.
