My name is John, and I have had a long life as a professional musician and as a Ph.D. college professor. I have taught driving lessons too BUT I love teaching music-most often piano and drums. Big emphasis on music literacy-so you learn to read and write music. I also want you to play what you love, and practice as much as you can. I was a music theory and composition undergrad-so I can help you by bringing MY BEST to your lessons so you learn what you need to do. Just practice, practice, practice. ..

Formal Education:
My undergrad studies concentrated on music and composition. I learned a lot and had the opportunity to hear what we writing in class. My parents weren't thrilled with my choice though they agreed "it something I could always fall back on." So I became a sociologist with a criminal concentration. Masters at Bowling Green OH and a Ph.D. from Notre Dame. (GO IRISH).
Private Education:
I took lessons on piano, drums, trumpet and flugelhorn, and accordion when I was growing up and had teachers in my area. Played in the High School marching band, when I began college, private lessons continued on piano, trumpet, and ensemble playing percussion (Tympani and mallet instruments also.)
Performing Experience:
My evolution was typical. Marching band in school-garage bands out of school. As I got older-my experience increased-I performed in nightclubs, on cruise ships, and even working with a 'show band' that did floor shows at major hotel chains and restaurants. I also had the opportunity to experience studio recordings in New York City when my band signed to Columbia records. In addition to bands, I also worked in clubs as a duo playing piano behind a female singer. I did MIDI backing tracks in a spare bedroom "studio."
Experience Teaching:
I have taught lessons from placing my own ads in community papers and craigslist. But also taught at music chain stores like George's Music in North Wales, PA, and out on International Drive in Orlando. Enjoyed students who wanted to play piano or drums that I taught at the store for 3 or 4 years in both locations.
