About Me

I’m Juan. I’m a voice teacher from Buenos Aires, now living and working in the DMV area. I’ve been studying and performing music for over 20 years. I’m a guitarist and a singer and I specialize in a voice method that is called Functional Voice Method, also known as Rabine Method in honor of its creator Maestro Eugene Rabine. I always enjoyed singing, I loved to play my guitar and sing. At the beginning of my musical journey, I considered myself as a guitarist that can also sing. But to be honest, during those years I didn’t really like my voice. I didn’t have a very wide range, high notes were always difficult for me and I didn’t believe that the sound of my voice was actually good. I usually end up tired and exhausted. Just a couple of hours of rehearsal was enough for me. I tried to do some training on my own with a couple of exercises that are said to improve the voice but that never seemed to work well on me. At that point, I started to look for a voice teacher. I went through different teachers, techniques, and methods, and learned some good exercises. I felt that I was improving a little but was never fully satisfied. A couple of years later I heard about the Rabine Method or Functional Voice Method. From what I heard sounded interesting enough to give it a try. So I started to read about it and look for a teacher that specializes in this method. This was game-changing for me and my voice. From that moment on I felt that my voice really "took off". I became very enthusiastic about this method and I love to share the tools that helped me grow as a singer and musician.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

As a singer/guitarist my goal as a teacher is provide my students with the propper technique and set of excercises that allows them to use their guitars not only as an instrument by itslef but as a tool. Guitar can be so usefull to work songs, voice excercices, create songs and new music, work with scales and harmonies. I don't use a specific method. I prefer to find the best approach and the appropiate music for every student.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

Voice health is essential and the cornestone of this pedagogy. Understanding our physiology and anatomy and how to reach a balance in wich the vocal cords can work with no extra stress or tension. In a normal lesson we usually start with a couple of simple vowel excercises. This gives us an opportunity to see how our instrument our voice is at that moment. From that observation we follow with some excercises applied to a more specific aspect of the voice. Sometimes we will focus on breath control, sometimes in posture, sometimes in pitch, sometimes in lower or higher notes. By the end of the lesson we can sing more complex excercises or we can go straight to repertoire. This is the moment to apply the ideas of the lesson to our music! My teaching fun while training is extremely important to me. All learning came from a space of enthusiasm and joy. Especially in arts and music.-Communication is essential. There should be a very open and honest dialog between teacher and student. I encourage my students to ask, propose and work together.-Because posture, movement and breathe have such a mutual influence; we usually need some work or excercise regarding the body movements envolving legs, arms, walking, jumping and a large etcetera.-I prefer to work with the music you want to sing and improve but from time to time I like to propose songs and ideas for your singing. About my method: We put our foucs in health. Aestethics or "beauty" of the voice is subjective. In this method we favor the voice health. The ability to sing without fatigue. The confidence that we can trust in our instrument. “The acoustical result of a healthy sound is a beautiful sound. And we will agree in any culture that it’s beautiful because it’s an instint aesthetic” from the film “A journey into the universe of voice” It comprehends 4 parts: 1 theory about the functional system how the instrument works 2 a theory about the sensomotorial system how one person learns a sensomotorial activity based on those 2 theories a ther 3 specific Pedagogy 4 specific Didactic
