About Me
Inspired by his fathers picking and crooning, James first strummed a classical guitar at the age of 12, and music slowly become his primary passion. He received formal music instruction through his middle and high school years at Loudoun Music Instruction under Frank Keim. In addition to the garage punk band he formed with some high school friends, he also played for several years in the LMI supergroup "The Immortals", performing various classic rock covers as a rhythm guitarist. Live performances with "The Immortals" included local 4th of July concerts in small Virginia towns, to the very halls of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. After high school, he picked up the bass and grew to love it, playing with a local Progressive Metal band "Midnight Sunrise" in 2013 while working on their debut album and performing live. The group ended up falling apart, but his love of music was rekindled in 2020 when he was recruited to play bass with a Hard Rock band "Dogs of the Hunt". This resulted in a rough EP that showed a lot of promise. James has a great passion, for all genres of music, he not only wants to record and perform music once again, but he also possesses a great desire to pass on what he knows about music theory and techniques for learning stringed instruments to all passionate music lovers with a desire to play. His music taste is eccentric and eclectic, so there's a good chance he can help anyone along the path, whatever style of music it is that they're into.

What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

My plan for teaching bass guitar, is to show how a skilled bassist can do so much more than simply play the root notes and follow the rhythm guitar. It takes a bit of practice, but once you realize how to move fluidly through a key, you can truly take your playing to the next level. A good bassist not only bolsters the driving rhythm of a song, but weaves in and out of the melodies and harmonies, creating a massive backbone that takes a simple song to the next level.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

My plan is to structure my lessons in a manner that helps the individual student assess where their strengths and weaknesses are, and what best practices are necessary to help them develop further. Every musician is different. In art, there is no wrong/right, but there are good habits you can develop to help process the feelings you are trying to convey in your music, ultimately making you a more successful musician. A basic understanding of theory can help immensely, and while I don't have a massively advanced understanding of theory, I know the crucial stuff, and I know how to access the resources that will help the student understand how to deftly move in and out of the various keys, chords, notes, modes, and so on, to create melodies, harmonies, and rhythms.
