About Me

I am a classically trained musician and bassist with a strong desire to pass my knowledge on to aspiring bassists. I began playing bass in my early teens and quickly developed a love for the instrument while playing a wide range of genres.

Growing up in Mississippi, near Memphis, and living in Chicago provided me with a strong background in Delta and Chicago Blues, and Memphis R&B genres. While working on my undergraduate degree, I completed university courses in music theory, composition, and piano proficiency.

Dave G. has over 27 years of music experience in the Summerville area.

First Lesson

I started playing bass through youtube videos for about a year. I began to feel that I had hit a wall and was not progressing as I would like so I went searching for some lessons. I found Taylor Robinson and was pleased to see that there were several teachers available in my area. Based on Dave's experience I chose Dave and I had my first lesson with Dave this past week. I found Dave to be a very approachable, passionate and knowledgable bass player with a wealth of experience. Dave began by correcting some bad habits I had developed over time with the position of my fretting hand and muting as well providing some daily exercises to reinforce correct technique. We also worked on fretboard awareness using alternative patterns for arpeggios and modes. In addition I picked up a few riffs and discussed adding a metronome and groove trainer into my practice routine. The same evening after the lesson, I received a email from Dave with a summery of the day as there was a fair amount of information to unpack from the days lessons. I am very pleased with my initial experience and would not hesitate to recommend Dave to anyone looking to take bass lessons. I look forward to my next lesson. Gerald wrote on Wed, 05 Apr 2023
